23/10/14 - Intersex identities and the cultural construction of sex

1.  What is intersexsuality? How common is it? Which is the answer or medical solution more used in this cases?
Intersexuality is when a person is borned with ambiguous sex, when it has no defined sexual organs, male or female, but has a mix of both.
1 person out of 2000 is intersexual.
The medical solution is to remove the genitals, like the clitoris. This is done in the first 15 months.
2.     Why the majotiry of this people are resigned as girls?
Most of these people is resigned as girls because is easier to change the amorphous genitals in female people.
3.      According to the explanation of the surgeon doctor, how the sex of a person is define?
How it is first define is by looking at th genitals, but if there is an intersexual case they use other methods. Years ago they observed it with the microscope, but nowadays the analyse the hormones.
4.     What does this doctor want to say with the affirmation of the definition of sex is a "cultural need"?
That nowadays society don't accept that a person can have both sex, you have to be or one thing or the other, not both. So sex is a cultural need in the way that people need to be define with one gender to be accepted.
5.      What do the  intersexual activists suggest to the medical answer?
They think that removing the genitals is like a mutilation, because they are taking away from that person a part of his/her body that is important to have sexual relationships.
6.      What does one of the activist want to say when he says: Anyone of us fit in the stereotype".
That nowadays the stereotype is being a girl or a boy, and they don't see themselve as any of them.

22/10/14 - It is a boy or a girl?

This one-hour documentary was nominated for a GLAAD award for Outstanding TV Journalism.

From the moment of birth, everybody wants to know is it a boy or a girl? This question can be complicated when a third option is introduced; one out of every two thousand children in America is born intersexual. Sometimes biology malfunctions and children are born with mixed sexual characteristics, in what is called an intersexual birth.
Many argue that the standard practice of sexual assignment by surgery in infancy should be discontinued giving the intersexual the right to chose or not to chose surgery once that person reaches adolescence. But whatever the surgical choice, intersexuals show us that gender is infinitely more complex than shape of our genitals.

It has been a really interesting documentary. I didn't know that intersex people existed, and it is very interestig to listen their experiences and know their point of view.

8/09/14 - Coat of arms video

SELF - EVALUATION

1. Positive things in my work:
I think is a really sincere video, that I try to talk with the "heart".  It's not just preparing a video for  homework, it's trying to talk a little bit about me, and how I am.
Also I think that the video is well done, with the images that make the speech less boring.

2. Things to improve:
I think I could talk a little bit more about every topic, and for that I would have had to prepare it more.
I'm sure I could have spent more time doing this homework.

3. Questions:
Was it difficult for you to talk about this topic?
Which one was the most difficult to talk about?
How did you feel when you saw it finished?

7/10/14 - Schooling the World

In these videos we can see the proccess that happened all around the world. By this proccess millions of people have been teached by people from the United States. We can see the role played by the modern education in the destruction of the world´s last indigenous cultures.

It criticises the thought about the neccessity of a unique form of modern scooling, it shows us the impact not only in children, but also in adults of each indigenous culture,
Indigenous were fine living by their owns values and teaching their children what they considered it has to be teached, but then as an indigenous saif “traditional ways of compassion, kindness and helping one anotherare slowly dying out”.

Before modern schooling their education focused on the spiritual teachings and now children only thinks about earn a lost of money.

The United States of America defends the ´scchooling the world´ because they consider it's important because children have to learn the economic system to make them competitive in the global economy; but ironically the countries they work at don't have a good economic system and much of the children that are learning these things don't even have food.

We should really change this situation!
